    Illovo Sugar Malawi Donates Vehicles to Chikwawa Police

    As one way of fulfilling corporate social responsibility, Illovo Sugar Malawi Plc on Wednesday handed over to Chikwawa Police three motor vehicles and refurbished Ngabu Police Post offices in the district.

    The historic ceremony which was graced by Inspector General of Malawi Police Services Dr. George Kainja and Deputy Minister of Lands Abida Mia took place at the refurbished Ngabu Police Post Offices.

    Speaking on behalf of Illovo Sugar Malawi Managing Director Lekani Katandula, Maureen Kachingwe, who is the Head of Legal affairs for Illovo Company said the donation was a fulfillment of the promise the company made to Chikwawa Police and community some weeks ago.

    Kachingwe further said the refurbished Ngabu police post will help in fighting against crime while the vehicles will help to address mobility challenges faced by men in uniform in the lower shire district of Chikwawa.

    “ It is our hope that these vehicles will assist the police to improve their mobility challenges as they carry out their duties of combating crime here in Chikwawa for the benefit of both our estates and the community at large,” said Kachingwe

    On her remarks, the Deputy Minister of Lands Abida Mia, who is also Member of Parliament for Chikwawa Mkombezi Constituency, commended Illovo for the timely donation.

    “The donation of 3 vehicles happens at a time when the need for good transportation by our security officers from the police is so acute.

    The initiative will certainly lessen the gap of need, that has been outstanding for a long time,” said Mia

    She added: “On top of the vehicles, the wonderful job of renovating Nchalo Police Station and Ngabu Police Post, will not only add beauty to the eye, but above all, create a conducive working environment for our officers.”

    The Deputy Minister Mia then appealed to police officers and members of the community to safe-guard the vehicles and the police post.

    “Let me appeal to our police officers who are the beneficiaries of these multi million Kwacha donations, to take good care of the renovated structures and vehicles, so that they should last for a long,” appealed Mia

    Echoing Mia’s sentiments, Inspector General of Police Dr. Kainja said: “What is unique in this donation from Illovo is the magnitude of the donation. The vehicles will be properly taken care of likewise the office block”
